IoT-compatible cooling units

Make cooling units IoT-compatible with ease

The ability of machines and systems to communicate with one another is a basic requirement for Industry 4.0. Rittal now offers a special adaptor for integrating existing Blue e series cooling units into condition monitoring and IoT systems, via the creation of comprehensive communication options.

For many industrial companies, digitalization is a top priority. But what if the machines and systems lack sufficient communication interfaces? A digital retrofit to retrospectively add suitable communications technology to existing machines and systems with may be the ideal solution. This prompted Rittal to develop an adaptor for its cooling units in the Blue e series which can be used to connect units to smart condition monitoring and IoT Systems.

Superior plant availability

The new adaptor supports condition monitoring of up to ten cooling units in a master/slave combination. As well as recording data, this also enables efficiency analyses of the cooling solution to be carried out. Monitoring for malfunctions or exceeded limits with automatic notification are also supported. This helps to increase availability and avoid expensive machine downtime.

The new adaptor is suitable for all units in the Blue e series operating with a comfort controller. This makes wall-mounted and roof-mounted cooling units from the Blue e series Industry 4.0-ready, and applies both to standard units and stainless steel versions. Similarly, Rittal cooling units with a Nema 3R/4 or Nema 4X classification are ideal for incorporating into IoT applications. These are often used outdoors. Typical examples of outdoor applications include systems for generating renewable energies, such as solar farms or wind turbines. As these are often installed in remote areas, remote monitoring of the controlgear and switchgear is essential.

Simple commissioning

Cooling units from the Blue e series can be incorporated into superordinate systems in conjunction with the IoT interface, now available for devices from the Blue e+ successor series. Because direct communication between the older Blue e models and the IoT interface is not supported, Rittal has developed a new IoT adaptor. The interface is quickly and conveniently configured and commissioned via the integral web server, no programming required.
