Preconfigured base solution for setting up AC distributors, as fuse protection between the inverter and the main connection. Configuration in AX compact housing 1281000 with 185 mm rail system for power distribution, tested according to IEC 61439-1-2.
Especially for photovoltaic systems > 30 kVA in grid-parallel operation, Rittal offers the AC distribution box based on the AX compact enclosure. The AX compact enclosures have been continuously improved in recent years. Especially for photovoltaic applications, the solution is well thought-out in every respect: Customers not only receive an enclosure, but a preconfigured solution with power distribution, including all documentation.
Insights
The powder-coated sheet steel enclosure in protection category IP66 is suitable for installation in protected rooms. If there is a canopy to provide protection from rain, snow and direct sunlight, outdoor use is also possible. The AX offers another benefit, too – extra room. The modular design, optimised cut-outs and larger gland plates provide, on average, up to a third more space for routing cables than the previous model. Since 2022, the AX has been offering even more options, thanks to the interior installation rail in a 25 mm pitch pattern with enhanced stability. The integrated locators in AX enclosures mean the rail can be locked in place easily and precisely, with no drilling required.
Note
-
For outdoor installation, protection against direct sunlight, rain and snow must be ensured

Explained step by step
1 Project definition
The engineering and manufacturing of AC distributors for use in PV installations must permit variable dimensioning of the individual components (MCCB, NH, busbars) in acordance with the actual power output. The installation of metering and control devices must take into account the relevant specifications of the energy supply company.
2 Engineering
The Eplan project, the so-called Industry Sample, describes a fully functional AC distributor with compact air circuit-breaker, overvoltage protection and climate control. You receive a complete Eplan project including all CAD files, parts lists with the components used and energy-relevant diagrams.
3 Engineering – Wiring
All required design information is provided in full detail, including relevant specifications for the wiring ducts and support rails.
4 Integration of bundled manufacturer data
Via the EPLAN Data Portal library, all relevant article data is available for direct import into the Eplan project, simplifying the process of documentation.
5 Engineering produces a 3D model
The integrated Eplan solutions permit simple 3D designing of the power distribution system in EPLAN Pro Panel.
6 The digital twin of the AC distributor station is ready2go
The digital twin is a virtual model of the planned installation and permits simulations of the systems, interfaces and processes already during the early engineering phase. That reduces the number of necessary development loops, reveals any errors in good time and accelerates commissioning. The optimisation of all process steps offers enormous potential for time and cost savings.
7 Parts lists for direct 1:1 ordering
A list of Rittal components can simply be exported and added to the Rittal shopping cart – and all information relevant for subsequent ordering is immediately available to the purchasing office.
8 Significantly simplified maintenance with a digital twin
The possibility to create an AR model simplifies maintenance of the installed system. Service technicians, for example, can already simulate a planned site visit before they leave the office and can provide valuable tips to their local partners via a remote link.
9 Special requirements? No problem!
Modifications to the Eplan project to accommodate individual wishes and requirements can be implemented quickly and simply at any time. Components can be removed, added or replaced as necessary – the documentation is updated immediately and the digital twin is adapted accordingly.
10 Documentation at the press of a button
The transformer station project is realised in accordance with DIN EN 61439. When designing and building low-voltage switchgear, it is important that the documentation includes routine verification reports and a declaration of CE conformity.
11 Production integration and pre-assembly
Eplan data can be imported seamlessly into Rittal solutions to enable automated production – significant efficiency gains are guaranteed.
Upon request, the Rittal Application Center in Gera offers further value-adding services: Specialists are on hand to support the planning of your power distribution system, and we can also take care of partial pre-assembly of your low-voltage switchgear. The pre-assembled system components can then be delivered quickly and reliably – including customer-provided circuit-breakers from all well-known manufacturers.
12 The real twin as a 1:1 copy
Project realisation times can be shortened significantly with the aid of a Industry Standard Project. Along the entire chain from engineering to assembly and commissioning, major time savings achieve a distinct cost reduction.
