Rittal Smart Service FAQ

Rittal Smart Service FAQ

Rittal Smart Service is a condition monitoring solution for the Blue e+ generation of cooling units. It is a cloud-based application which is accessed via a Web browser.

To use the Smart Service, as well as the relevant infrastructure including the IoT interface (Model No. 3124300), network connections and voltage supply for the IoT interface, you will also need to make certain configuration settings on the firewall.

The MQTT (8883) and https (443) ports must be enabled and access to the URL must be available..

The Blue e+ cooling unit should have software version 1.11 or above.
The IoT interface should have software version 6.19.00 or above.

An IoT interface is not always required to connect devices. The Blue e+ S cooling units for small output categories up to 1,000 W have an integral Rittal Smart Service interface. For Blue e+ cooling units with output categories of 1,000 W or above, an IoT interface is required.

The IoT interface dashboard is hardware-related and is activated by directly accessing the device’s IP address. It is not particularly user-friendly.
By contrast, the Rittal Smart Service dashboard was consciously designed with a user-friendly interface which allows users to view not just one device, but all connected Blue e+ cooling units.

Rittal can supply you with instructions on how to connect devices to the Rittal Smart Service. Blue e+ S cooling units are quickly and easily connected using the Scan and Service app. Further details about the app can be found here.
Blue e+ cooling units are connected to the Rittal Smart Service via the IoT interface.

The Rittal Smart Service focuses on selected application areas in all industry segments. Only the Blue e+ generation of cooling units can be linked to the Rittal Smart Service.

Data is transferred to the Rittal Smart Service Cloud via MQTT and https. As an alternative to the intranet, customers can also use an in-plant LTE infrastructure. Data communication is uni-directional – in other words, no data is transmitted back to your cooling units. Data communications are encrypted via TLS.

The collated device data is stored in a certified Friedhelm Loh Group data centre in Frankfurt.

The data is used, firstly, to add value for users via the Rittal Smart Service application. One example is the depiction of the device’s operating response, helping users to understand its performance at different times of day.
After three months, device data is deleted. Anonymised data storage is connected upstream and used to develop new value-added functions for users.

The Rittal Smart Service was designed as a digital add-on and enhancement for the most efficient cooling units currently available on the market. It aims to provide customers and users with enhanced benefits while the cooling units are operational.
The target user groups include maintenance managers and teams, energy managers, as well as process, data and asset managers.

The Rittal Smart Service already includes a wide range of functions, and others are in the pipeline. Some of the key functions are listed below:
- Management of connected devices with a tree structure
- User management
- Traffic light representation of the device status
- Central management of cooling units including error messages
- Error messages are supplemented with recommended actions
- and much more besides
